Malika Writer/Topliner/Vocalist
Malika Ferguson (known mononymously as Malika, previously Meleka) is a brand new Z Management client! As a writer and topliner, Malika is eager to contribute her talents to other artists' projects, with stylistic preferences ranging from pop to soul and R&B. Malika is also an accomplished singer, lending not only her writing skills but vocal talents to numerous projects, including hits by Nathan Dawe, "Cheating" (61m streams) and "Flowers" (91m streams). The latter peaked at #12 on the UK singles chart and is a Platinum seller. Malika was signed to Ultra publishing. The partnership was fruitful and has since seen her co-write and contribute vocals to releases with esteemed artists such Snakehips (the track "Falling" - 10m streams). "Falling" sits on the EP "Money On Me" alongside artists such as Anderson .Paak. Other collaborations include Michael Calfan ("Got You" - 13m streams), Sam Feldt ("Hungry Eyes" - 12m streams), Redlight, Riton, Punctual and Crazy Cousinz.
Malika's musical breakthrough came when she won the MTV competition Hugo Urban Rules. This led to the release of her debut single, "Go," which received multiple remixes from Tinie Tempah and Crazy Cousinz. It was the latter mix that propelled "Go" to the height of its popularity (6.5m streams) and firmly established Malika as a rising star. Subsequently, her talent caught the attention of iconic dance act Basement Jaxx. She guested on the title track of their album "Scars", a collaboration with both Kelis and Chip. This marked a significant turning point in Malika's career, as she began to focus on writing and collaborating with and for others. Malika has been a part of sessions for the likes of Rita Ora (who has cut a vocal to one of Malika's songs), Ella Eyre, Alexandra Burke and more. Other notable collaborations include Loxe (Nao), KZ (Stormzy, Kojey Radical) and SG Lewis.
With a microphone and a home setup, Malika can create rough demos but she thrives in the studio environment, working closely with producers to bring the vision of the artists they are working with to life. Her most successful cuts often come from sessions with artists in the room. As she continues to evolve, drawing inspiration from her rich musical upbringing and experiences, Malika is always open to exploring new writing opportunities and creative avenues.
Malika is based in North London.
